YEOVIL NEWS: Town falls silent to remember those that paid the ultimate price
THE silence was deafening against the chilly morning air as the town of Yeovil stood still on Sunday (November 12, 2017) to remember the fallen.
Hundreds of people gathered in the Borough around the War Memorial for the annual Remembrance Sunday commemoration and a two-minute silence was impeccably observed at 11am.
A parade of servicemen and women, both past and present, as well as youth organisations marched to the War Memorial before civic dignitaries arrived and took their places led by the Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler, Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh and South Somerset District Council chairman Cllr Mike Best. Former Yeovil MP and leader of the Liberal Democrats, Paddy Ashdown, was also among the official party.
A short service took place before a lone bugler played the Last Post to signify the start of a two-minute silence as standard bearers lowered their flags at 11am.

The silence was broken by the bugler with the playing of Reveille and the standards being raised once more.
A number of wreaths were placed around the foot of the War Memorial before the civic dignitaries and parade marchers went to the nearby St John’s Church for a Remembrance Service.
Similar Acts of Remembrance were carried out at towns and villages across South Somerset on Sunday.
