GLOVERS NEWS: Tough start for Yeovil Town Ladies

YEOVIL Town Ladies fell to a 4-0 defeat at Huish Park on Sunday (September 24, 2017) to reigning FA Women’s Super League One champions Manchester City Ladies.

The deadlock was broken early doors when Izzy Christiansen netted a penalty on seven minutes for Man City who then went on to dominate the proceedings.

But it was not until just before the half-time interval that City doubled their advantage when Jane Ross scored.

It was 3-0 to the visitors on 59 minutes when Jill Scott scored and they completed their haul in the final stages of the fixture with Georgia Stanway getting on the scoresheet.

The match was sponsored by the Glovers Trust supporters’ group and it awarded the Yeovil player-of-the-match award to Jessie Jones.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler and his wife Anna, were in the 1,302 crowd at Huish Park for the game.

“The Yeovil Ladies did admirably against a very, very good Manchester City team,” said Cllr Shutler. “They may have lost, but they can certainly hold their heads up high and go forward in the season with confidence. I’m sure this was just a blip.”
