GLOVERS NEWS: Olomola at the double for Yeovil Town in victory

YEOVIL Town got their season up and running on Saturday (August 12, 2017) with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Accrington Stanley at Huish Park in the Sky Bet League Two.

After the opening day 8-2 defeat disaster the previous weekend at Luton Town and a midweek League Cup exit at Wolverhampton Wanderers, it was vital that the Glovers gave their beleaguered supporters something to cheer about.

And it has to be said the signs did not look good when Accrington’s Kayden Jackson gave the visitors a lead on 12 minutes.

But Yeovil responded magnificently and levelled through Olufela Olomola on 26 minutes as the Glovers took control of proceedings.

Francois Zoko put Yeovil 2-1 up on 38 minutes and then within a minute it was 3-1 when Olomola netted his second of the afternoon.

Yeovil failed to push on in the second period and Accrington reduced the deficit on 53 minutes when Jackson scored his second of the game.

The Glovers held on for an important 3-2 win and an even more important three points – although Mekhi Leacock-McLeod and Jordan Clark both went close for the visitors in time added on.

Although it was probably too early to start pushing panic buttons after the 8-2 defeat at Luton, it is probably too soon to start thinking everything is rosy again in the Huish Park garden – it is not.

But Yeovil are up and running after a difficult start and this victory over Accrington will have restored some dented pride and confidence among the Huish Park players.

Worrying for the Huish Park officials was the crowd was just 2,464.
