LEISURE: Launch of Storyteller competition to celebrate Yeovil Library’s 30th anniversary

TO mark the 30th birthday of Yeovil Library a special competition and event are being organised by Somerset County Council.

The Storyteller competition celebrates creativity and encourages children and young people to take part in a number of different ways. The library staff are calling all budding young artists, wizard wordsmiths and talented photographers to take part in the competition.

Children aged between two and five years are invited to draw, paint or colour a picture of their favourite fairy-tale.

Young people aged between 6 -14 years are invited to write a short story of no more than 500 words, on the subject, The Storyteller.

Entrants aged 15-18 are invited to tell a story using a maximum of six photographs on the theme, The Storyteller. The pictures should have a local setting, or be taken at a local event.
The winners and runners up for each age category will be announced at the birthday celebration event on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Book token prizes have been donated by the Yeovil Community Arts Association.

The county council’s libraries spokesman, Cllr David Hall, said: “It is fantastic that Yeovil Library has been at the heart of the town for the past 30 years, providing a vital service as well as so much pleasure and enjoyment to the local community.

“I encourage local children and young people to take part in the competition and to visit the library on Saturday, September 9, 2017, to enjoy the celebrations.”

Further details and entry forms are available from Yeovil Library or by email from yeolib@somerset.gov.uk. The closing date for all entries is Saturday, August 26, 2017.
