SOMERSET NEWS: Murder investigation launched after man found dead
POLICE have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 40-year-old man at a house in a Somerset seaside town.
Emergency services were called to reports of an assault at a property on Churchill Close – off Worston Lane – in Burnham-on-Sea at 11.56pm on Monday (July 10, 2017) night.
Police announced on Tuesday (July 11, 2017) afternoon that sadly a 40-year-old man had been pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out by a Home Office pathologist in due course, while formal identification procedures have not yet taken place.
A 43-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the incident and were taken into police custody.
DCI James Riccio said: “This investigation is at a very early stage and we are doing everything possible to determine how the man died.
“We’re treating the death as murder due to the injuries the man received.
“His next of kin have been informed and specially trained officers are offering support to his family.
“Two people have been arrested and are currently in custody for questioning.
“Specialist crime scene investigators are now examining the scene while there is also an increased police presence in the area for reassurance.
“We’re aware this will have an impact on the wider community and I’d like to reassure people we believe this to be an isolate incident.
“Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to contact their local neighbourhood team.”
