YEOVIL NEWS: Investigations being carried out after Wyndham Street fire

INVESTIGATIONS are underway into the cause of a fire at retail premises in Yeovil on Saturday (June 24, 2017) morning.

The alarm was raised at 10.45am to the incident at Wyndham Street when the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a number of calls from members of the public.

Firefighters were quickly on the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the ground and first floor of the property.

Back-up support was called for from Sherborne and Crewkerne and officers reported that all persons were thankfully accounted for.

Firefighters reported there being a fire in the shop premises on the ground floor, thought to be an electrical appliance outlet, while a first floor flat had been smoke logged.

The road was closed while the operation was carried out and firefighters later revealed that the room where the blaze had started suffered 100 per cent damage and that the entire ground floor had sustained total smoke damage.

The first floor flat had also suffered five per cent fire damage and 15 per cent smoke damage.

A Fire Service spokesman said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
