SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Put an ‘X’ in a box! Make sure you know how to have your say on June 8

VOTERS are being reminded to make sure they are ready to take part in the General Election on Thursday (June 8, 2017).

South Somerset District Council administers the constituencies of Yeovil and Somerton & Frome at the General Election.

There are 82,920 eligible registered voters for the Yeovil Constituency, while there are 84,448 registered voters for Somerton & Frome.

There will be 150 polling stations open across South Somerset on election day and manned by 350 staff throughout the day.

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday.

Voters who have opted to vote by post need to make sure their postal ballot pack is returned by 10pm on Thursday.  Voters can hand it in at their polling station if they have not left enough time to return it by post.

South Somerset District Council’s returning officer, Ian Clarke, said: “Putting a cross in a box might seem simple, but there are plenty of things voters need to consider in order to be 'election ready.

“Your poll card will tell you the location of your polling station, and you will find more information on how to take part at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk .

“Voters can also get in touch with the elections team here at South Somerset District Council with any further queries.”

Voters are advised not to take photos inside their polling station as they could potentially breach the secrecy of the ballot requirements.
