YEOVIL NEWS: Mayor makes skydive for charity

THE Yeovil Mayor certainly had a head for heights in his latest charity fundraising event – a 15,000ft skydive.

Cllr Darren Shutler, who has been raising money for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice and the School in a Bag charity project based near Yeovil, took the plunge on Monday (April 17, 2017) at Dunkeswell Aerodrome in Devon – organised by the Skydive Buzz UK team.

And the Mayor, back on firm ground, said: “What an experience – thank you.”

The skydive had been planned to take place earlier this month, but was cancelled at the 11th hour due to a “paperwork” problem – so fair play to the Mayor for sticking to his word and jumping out an aeroplane with a qualified instructor strapped to his back.

Cllr Shutler would like to thank everyone who sponsored him for the skydive and supported his other fundraising events over the past 12 months.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the cause can do so – email the Mayor at darrenshutler@googlemail.com .

It is a shame, however, judging by the photos, that the Mayor was unable to wear his mayoral chain of office for the skydive – although we doubt that that is included in the Mayor’s Book of Etiquette.
