YEOVIL AREA NEWS: Man jailed for 21 years over sex offences against three girls

A 55-year-old South Somerset man has been jailed for 21 years after being convicted of sexual offences against three girls.

Peter John Kingdon, of Barwick near Yeovil, was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on Wednesday (March 29, 2017) after previously being convicted of 11 charges, including rape, sexual assault and gross indecency.

The charges relate to three victims, who were aged between five and 15 at the time the offences were committed.

Investigating officer DC Stephen Bark said: “Peter Kingdon is a depraved sex offender whose appalling crimes spanned 16 years.

“A police investigation began in February 2015 when one his victims bravely came to Yeovil police station to report the abuse she had suffered.

“Kingdon initially pleaded not guilty in court and maintained this up until the final hearing when he finally changed his plea to guilty.

“I’d like to commend all the victims for the determination and dignity they’ve shown throughout the police investigation and court proceedings.

“I hope this outcome will encourage other victims of rape and sexual assault to have confidence in reporting offences to us, no matter how long ago the crimes occurred.”
