YEOVIL NEWS: Thirsty Thursday and Fruity Friday for Yeovil Hospital

YEOVIL District Hospital has backed a national campaign highlighting the importance of good nutrition and hydration.

Patients and staff at Yeovil Hospital have been busy enjoying a variety of food and drink-themed events during this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week.

The national campaign, which ran from March 13-19, 2017, highlighted the importance of good nutrition at all stages of life, from infancy to old age. The week also recognises the impact social isolation has on nutritional intake, especially in the elderly.

Visitors to the hospital will be able to find out more information from the stand in main reception with quizzes, leaflets and free water on Thirsty Thursday kindly donated by Medtronic and Nutricia.

Staff from the hospital’s dietetics team ran an afternoon tea party on two of the wards on Wednesday (March 15, 2017) to encourage patients, their visitors and staff to interact and socialise to help combat the feelings of isolation experienced by many while in hospital.

The week ended with Fruity Friday that saw patients on the hospital’s children’s ward enjoying fruit kebabs and smoothies.

Head of dietetics Alison Kyle said: “Good nutrition and hydration are always important and that is especially true when you are in hospital as it can have a huge impact on your recovery. We hope that during the week of events patients, visitors and staff will enjoy getting involved.”
