YEOVIL HALF MARATHON 2017: Just a week to go – still time to enter!

HUNDREDS of runners will be making their final preparations ahead of the annual Yeovil Half Marathon which takes place next Sunday (March 26, 2017).

The half marathon – now in its seventh year – will start and finish in Yeovil town centre and roads around the area will be closed to traffic for the runners before heading along the entire length of Yeovil Country Park.YEOVIL HALF MARATHON 2017: Just a week to go – still time to enter!

The route then leaves the town on the western side to the National Trust’s Montacute House before returning on quiet country roads to the town centre finish in the Quedam Shopping Centre.

The main race will start at 9am in the South Street area of the town centre.

Closing date for team entries of ten runners is Thursday (March 23, 2017) at a cost of £195.

Affiliated runners have until Wednesday (March 22, 2017) to enter at a cost of £26 and unaffiliated runners also have until Wednesday (March 22, 2017) to enter at a cost of £28.

Team entries of five runners have until Saturday (March 25, 2017) to enter at a cost of £97.50.

The Yeovil Half Marathon route is as follows: The start is at South Street outside the Globe and Crown pub. The runners will run down South Street and turn right into Addlewell Lane before turning right into Taunusstein Way and then Park Street up past the Swan Theatre and into Brunswick Street.

They will then turn up Hendford and into the High Street and Silver Street and then Market Street and Central Road past the Quedam Shopping Centre car park and the William Dampier Wetherspoons pub before turning up into Lower Middle Street and going straight over into Sherborne Road.

The runners go up Sherborne Road and follow the road round before entering the Yeovil Country Park virtually opposite the Pen Mill Hotel.

The route takes them along the “yellow brick road” along the River Yeo before arriving at the car park area of the Yeo Leisure Park.YEOVIL HALF MARATHON 2017: Just a week to go – still time to enter!

The runners take the footpath along the Yeovil Country Park through Ninesprings and along the old railway track and under the bridge over the A30 Hendford Hill and past the B&M Store before arriving out onto Lysander Road opposite McDonald’s.

The route goes left along the length of Lysander Road past the Morrisons supermarket store, Leonardo Helicopters and B&Q.

The runners will then turn right at the roundabout into Watercombe Lane and then into Bunford Lane past the airfield and
Garador.

The runners will turn right at the Cartgate roundabout and go up to the small roundabout by the Airfield Tavern and Palmers where they will turn left into Bluebell Road as they start to head out of Yeovil.

They will move into New Road at the Boundary Road roundabout and then onto Yeovil Road as they enter the village of Montacute. They will move into the grounds of the National Trust’s Montacute House before emerging back Montacute Road at the other end of the village and into Lower Town on the return to Yeovil.

The runners will turn right into Thorne Lane and then up Ball’s Hill before back into Thorne Lane as they re-enter Yeovil. They continue along Thorne Lane past the junction with Western Avenue and go past the new Brimsmore housing development before turning right down Larkhill Road.YEOVIL HALF MARATHON 2017: Just a week to go – still time to enter!

The runners might be tempted to stop off at the Royal Standard before arriving at the traffic lights on the junction with Preston Road and Preston Grove.

The route continues over the junction into Preston Grove and the runners will go down into Huish before heading right into Orchard Street and then left into Beer Street.

They will then turn left into West Hendford and go through the underpass back on the route into the town centre where they will come out at the entrance to the undercover car park near Tesco.

The runners will turn up Hendford past Beales on the right and the NatWest on the left as they move into High Street and through The Borough down Silver Street and then through the Quedam Shopping Centre to the finishing line at the bottom entrance to the Quedam.

New for 2017 will be a LADIES FUN RUN which will start at 9.15am and will make full use of the closed roads in the town centre and finish at the Quedam.

The 1.2m run is achievable for ladies of all fitness levels and is being organised in conjunction with the This Girl Can initiative.

Ladies have until Saturday (March 25, 2017) to get their entries in.

There will also be a CHILDREN'S FUN RUN specifically for youngsters of primary school age.  This will also take place in the town centre and finish at the Quedam. This will start at 9.30am.
