SOMERSET NEWS: Unprovoked assault in Street under investigation

A 35-YEAR-OLD man was seriously injured following an unprovoked assault in Street.

The victim was walking along High Street, close to Chipmunks fish and chip shop, at about 11.30pm on Monday, January 30, 2017, when he was assaulted by up to three men.

Because of the words used by the offenders during the incident, it’s being treated as a hate crime.

Det Con Russell Head said: “The victim suffered some serious injuries in this vicious unprovoked attack, which required surgery.

“The words used by the offenders suggest this was a racially aggravated crime.

“Did you see this incident take place? Do you know who was, or may have been responsible?”
