GLOVERS NEWS: Andre Wright’s loan move to Yeovil Town is cancelled

STRIKER Andre Wright’s loan move to Yeovil Town from West Bromwich Albion has been cancelled due to Football League rules governing the number of clubs a player can represent in one season.

The 20-year-old was revealed as Yeovil manager Darren Way’s fourth January signing earlier this week after spending the first half of the season at League One outfit Coventry City.

However, prior to joining the Sky Blues on loan, the striker featured for West Brom’s Under-23s in their Checkatrade Trophy clash with Millwall at the Hawthorns back in August which has been designated as a first-team game by the EFL.GLOVERS NEWS: Andre Wright’s loan move to Yeovil Town is cancelled Photo 2

Consequently, Wright has been recalled by the Baggies with league rules stipulating a player cannot feature for a third team in one season.

Albion’s director of football administration, Richard Garlick, said he was disappointed with the Football League’s ruling which left the Premier League Club with no option but to cancel Wright’s loan with the Glovers.

“It’s a great shame because it would have been another excellent development opportunity for Andre,” said Mr Garlick.

“At the time of Andre’s Checkatrade Trophy appearance, the rules were unclear regarding whether this was designated a first team or Under-23 match. We had not had the approach from Coventry at that point.

“We have checked with the Premier League and they have confirmed the Football League’s interpretation of the rules.”

A Yeovil Town club spokesman said: “We are disappointed to miss out on the opportunity to work with the striker, but wish Andre all the best for the remainder of the season.”
