YEOVIL NEWS: Civic reception – at last – for Yeovil Town Ladies FC champions?

COUNCILLORS will meet this week to discuss possible plans for a civic reception in honour of Yeovil Town Ladies FC gaining promotion to the FA Women’s Super League One – although it is now over two months since the team achieved the feat.

Yeovil Town Council’s promotions and activities committee will meet on Tuesday (January 17, 2017) to discuss official plans to celebrate the club’s magnificent achievements on the pitch.

A report will be given to councillors by the council’s deputy town clerk.

Yeovil Town Ladies clinched promotion to the highest division in women’s football in England on October 30, 2016, and then pipped Bristol City Women to the Super League Two title a week later on November 6, 2016, with a 3-0 win over Sheffield Ladies at Huish Park.

It was not long after the team’s success that the council initially agreed to discuss having a reception to recognise the team’s success.

But, so far, no concrete plans have been publicly agreed.

The Mayor, Cllr Darren Shutler, declined to comment about the latest plans for the civic reception ahead of this week’s meeting – but there should hopefully be some positive news on Tuesday evening.

Yeovil Town Ladies will host their first-ever FA Women’s Super League One match at Huish Park on Sunday, April 23, 2017, with a 2pm kick-off against Liverpool in the Spring Series.

The Spring Series is a one-off competition which has been created to bridge the gap between seasons, while the FA WSL transitions from a summer league to a more traditional football calendar.
