YEOVIL NEWS: Bus operator asks for passenger patience during Lyde Road traffic chaos

A BUS operator has said that it will do all it can to keep to its timetable during the roadworks being carried out in Lyde Road in Yeovil – although it knows it will be very difficult.

South West Coaches has told customers on its website that its Service 68 route will face problems during the road closure.

“Due to the road closure along Lyde Road for the next 56 days our Service 68 will be affected,” said a spokesman for South West Coaches.

“We will do all we can to keep to the timetable during this period, but please be aware that the build-up of traffic in Yeovil can and does make this difficult.

“Thank you for your patience.”YEOVIL NEWS: Bus operator asks for passenger patience during Lyde Road traffic chaos

Service 68 stops at Yeovil Bus Station, Yeovil Junction Railway Station, Stoford Green, Barwick, Yeovil Borough, Yeovil Pen Mill, Cavalier Way, Runnymede Road and Monmouth Road.

The developer, Barratt Homes, is currently replacing the mini-roundabout at the junction of Sherborne Road and Lyde Road with a new traffic light controlled junction.

This is required as part of a legal agreement linked to the construction of new homes at Wyndham Park which were originally approved by South Somerset District Council back in 2006.

Work began in September last year, but the second phase started on Monday (January 9, 2017) and sees Lyde Road closed to traffic until early March with two-way temporary traffic lights on Sherborne Road.

Barratt Homes and its principal contractor Tithegrove have been working closely with Somerset County Council to plan the timing and details of the scheme to minimise impact.
