BUSINESS: Helen Lacey voted in as vice-chairman of Somerset Chamber

MANAGING director of Red Berry Recruitment, Helen Lacey, has been announced as the new vice-chairman of Somerset Chamber of Commerce.

She was elected to the post having been voted in by the Board of Directors at the Chamber’s December 2016 board meeting.

A successful local business woman, Helen has been a Somerset Chamber director for the past two years.

She founded Red Berry Recruitment in 2007, which now has offices in Shepton Mallet, Yeovil and Bridgwater, and she is also chair of the Somerset branch of the Institute of Directors.

Helen’s appointment comes as a result of the previous vice-chairman, Greg Saunders from Clarke Willmott, being elected as the new chairman at the Chamber annual meeting in November.

This followed the departure of Graham Knight, who stood down after completing the maximum permitted three years in the role.

Helen said: “A couple of years ago it was suggested by Graham Knight that I put myself forward as a potential Board Member for the Chamber. I was delighted to be voted in and so far have enjoyed a wonderful two years on the board.

“I felt this was the right time to put myself forward for the Vice Chair role, to support Greg in taking over from the wonderful work that Graham has done and to support Dale and the Chamber in whatever capacity I can. I am very much looking forward to seeing the Chamber grow even more over the coming years!”

Newly appointed chairman Greg Saunders added: “I was delighted when Helen put herself forward for the role of Vice Chair. I cannot think of anyone more able for the role and she was unanimously appointed by the Board.

“I look forward to working closely with Helen, Dale and the team to continue the ongoing fantastic work of the Chamber in 2017 and beyond.”

Somerset Chamber of Commerce is one of only five accredited Chambers in the South West and 52 in the whole of the UK. It is one of the fastest growing Chambers in the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) network and works closely with the BCC to make sure Somerset businesses stay well connected at both a local and national level, and that the voices of the Somerset business community are heard at all levels of government.
