YEOVIL NEWS: Vacant allotment plots at Westlands Yeovil

CHRISTMAS may have come early for keen gardeners with the news that nearly 60 allotment plots have been added to South Somerset District Council’s portfolio at the Westlands site in Yeovil.

SSDC is pleased to announce that the allotments at the Westlands Yeovil site in Westbourne Grove are currently being managed, under lease, by the Westlands Allotment and Horticultural Society but there are some vacant plots ready for letting.

Cost to rent one of the plots is £35 per year with additional contributions for insurance and water usage. All plots are 7.3m by 15.1m. Car parking is also available on site.YEOVIL NEWS: Vacant allotment plots at Westlands Yeovil

There is no longer a requirement that allotment holders have to be members of the Westlands Yeovil complex, meaning that any resident interested in renting a plot can now do so.

If you are interested in renting an allotment at Westlands, please contact Mike Amor, chairman of Westlands Allotment and Horticultural Society, on 01935-474008 or Tim Wheeler, allotment warden, on 01935-477503.

The council’s leisure and culture spokesman, Cllr Sylvia Seal, said: “Activities such as gardening or tending to allotments are excellent for relaxation and mental stimulation and therefore have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing.

“Anyone interested in tending to an allotment should register an interest as soon as possible because I’m sure the spaces will soon be filled up and allocated.”
