COLLEGE NEWS: We’re all going to the zoo, zoo, zoo – what about you, you, you?

STUDENTS studying animal management at Bridgwater and Taunton College were recently given the opportunity to visit some of the best zoos in the country as part of a study tour on their course.

Students visited West Midland Safari Park, Welsh Mountain Zoo, Chester Zoo and Slimbridge Wildlife and Wetland Centre to assist with the assessments they are expected to complete in the zoological animal health and husbandry unit of their course.

The group of 38 students from the college’s Cannington, Yeovil and Paignton centres took part in the annual tour to these establishments with a particular highlight being the new “Islands” exhibit at Chester Zoo that opened in July this year.

Students were able to study the environments that the animals were housed in.

Georgina Peach, who is studying the Level 3 animal management course at the Yeovil Centre, said: “Chester Zoo was amazing! It was my favourite zoo because it really immersed you in the environment habitat, it felt like you were there, and has given me loads of ideas for my assignment!”
