YEOVIL NEWS: Benefits advice meetings to be held in Wetherspoons pub!

PEOPLE on benefits might be encouraged to go along to hear more information about what they are entitled to as South Somerset District Council is planning on holding drop-in sessions at a Yeovil town centre pub.

The council will be working in with partnership with Citizens Advice South Somerset to hold a series of Benefit Cap public information sessions during November.

The sessions will be held at J.D. Wetherspoon’s pub The William Dampier on Middle Street in Yeovil and will run from 9am until 11am on each Thursday in November.YEOVIL NEWS: Benefits advice meetings to be held in Wetherspoons pub!

Cllr Sylvia Seal, the council’s spokesman for health, housing and wellbeing, said: “We are supporting Citizens Advice South Somerset to arrange these sessions because we understand that benefit information can be confusing and many people suffer financially through not being able to access the correct information.

“These sessions will give those who attend the opportunity to discuss how the forthcoming Benefit Cap may affect them directly, and enable them to access further help with budgeting advice and managing debts.”

Angela Kerr, chief executive officer of Citizens Advice South Somerset, added: “We are delighted to have support from J.D. Wetherspoon who are hosting these information events because we know that many people are finding it difficult to understand exactly how they may be affected by changes in welfare benefits.

“The William Dampier is a place that many of our clients enjoy using and feel comfortable about visiting, we hope this will encourage people to come and see us.”

No appointment is necessary - just drop-in. Free tea and coffee will be available.
