THE School in a Bag charity transported supporters back in time as it enjoyed a successful Medieval Night near Yeovil.

The charity has held various themed nights over the years and the latest to be staged at its headquarters in Chilthorne Domer on Friday (October 21, 2016) saw people really get into the fancy dress theme of Medieval attire.

There were Knights and Robin Hood, Friars and Ladies, Kings and Queens, and even Shrek, from the hit computer-animated movie, made an appearance.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Turning back the clock to Medieval England Photo 6

There were prizes for the best dressed fancy dress and Jane Helyar won for the girls as Princess Fiona from the Shrek film, while Mark Rendell won the boys competition as a menacing executioner.

Luke Simon, of the School in a Bag charity, said: “Thank you so much to everyone who came along to our Medieval Night and all those who entered into the spirit and dressed up – there were some amazing outfits!”

Representatives of Hooke Court were at the event and they were able to supply lots of props and the money from the Medieval Night will go towards a project in Malawi.

Food was served up by the Happy Hogroast team while there were some yummy desserts created by Plan It Cake.

One Medieval Night goer was Ian Montague who was enjoying his birthday and he was promptly put in the stocks while the traditional Happy Birthday was sung.

Hooke Court is a residential educational outdoor activity centre in Dorset and is also supporting poverty-stricken children in Malawi and has linked up with School in a Bag.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Turning back the clock to Medieval England Photo 1

The charity provides bags filled with stationery equipment and resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn.

Each SchoolBag delivered to a child will give hope to his or her future and has the potential to transform their lives.

So far nearly 75,000 SchoolBags have been delivered to children around the world.

School in a Bag was an initiative coming out of the Piers Simon Appeal which was launched following the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 which killed hundreds of thousands of people including former Preston School and Yeovil College student Piers Simon.

Each SchoolBag costs £20 and for more information about the charity and how to get involved go to http://www.schoolinabag.org/ .

Members of the School in a Bag team are always looking for more supporters and provide many talks around the area and are more than keen to get local schools involved.
