YEOVIL NEWS: Musical morning is a hit with care home residents

RESIDENTS and staff at the Grovelands care home in Yeovil observed World Alzheimer’s Day with song and dance and welcomed concert pianist, Jonathan Delbridge, with open arms.

Jonathan kicked off the morning of music with a vocal warm up, encouraging everyone to take part to avoid straining their vocal chords.

Jonathan and the Grovelands staff then led sing-alongs to ‘A bicycle made for two’, ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’, ‘You are my sunshine’, ‘Roll out the barrel’ and ‘She’ll be coming round the mountain’.

A range of musical instruments were available for the residents so that everyone could get involved in the festivities.

The final song, ‘Fly me to the moon’, brought some of the residents to their feet, dancing with each other to the classic Frank Sinatra favourite.

Grovelands manager, Ross Isbell, said: “We’ve had a fantastic morning singing and dancing along to Jonathan’s music.

“We’re a very musical home and there’s no way that we couldn’t mark the day with a song and dance. Music brings such a great benefit to the lives of people living with dementia; it’s wonderful to see the impact it has on a person’s wellbeing.”
