SCHOOL NEWS: Determined young students take on key roles at Holyrood

HOLYROOD Academy headteacher, Matt Collins, is delighted to announce that Katherine Locke and Seamus Curtin have been appointed as this year’s Head Boy and Head Girl at the secondary school in Chard.

Mr Collins said: “This is such a fantastic opportunity for our Sixth Form students. They were put through a rigorous interview process last term and are both were very strong candidates.

“I feel totally confident in their abilities to act as excellent role models as well as to fulfil a programme of Academy events throughout the academic year.”SCHOOL NEWS: Determined young students take on key roles at Holyrood

Katherine, who is studying Economics, History and Law, joined Holyrood in Year 7 from Redstart Primary School and said: “I want to give something back to Holyrood! I intend to inspire other students to take advantage of all the opportunities we are offered at school and to feel they can approach me for any help or advice they may need.” Seamus, while studying Geography, Business Studies and English, is keen to act as a voice for the whole student body.

“I have plans to develop the integration between Sixth Form and the rest of the Academy and am also hoping to bring everyone together in charitable events,” he said.

Dave MacCormick, director of Holyrood Sixth Form, added: “Both these determined young students have very clear aims for their new roles.

“They are natural leaders but have had to work hard to achieve their own successes at Holyrood and it is brilliant that they want to share their ideas and enrich the experience of others going through the same as themselves.

“I am really looking forward to working with them and have already enjoyed discussing some of their plans!”
