YEOVIL NEWS: Mayor’s Award for Westfield community stalwart

A MAN who has devoted more than 30 years to the Yeovil community has been awarded the Mayor’s Award 2016.

Former Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Mike Lock, presented Pete Ridler a Silver Salver as a token of recognition and thanks on behalf of the Mayor and the Town.

The award is presented each year to an individual or an organisation which provides a worthwhile service to the community.

Cllr Lock said at the presentation held at Yeovil Town Council on September 6, 2016, that Mr Ridler truly deserved the award for his dedication and hard work to help others.

“He works hard in the community and does an exceptional amount of work for charities,” he said.

Mr Ridler has lived within the Westfield community for nearly 40 years and had contributed significantly to Westfield Community School both as a member of the PTA and as a school governor.

He had helped raise money for St Peter’s Church fund as well as support the luncheon dinners held for older people. He raised funds for Children’s Hospice South West for a number of years as well as knitting baby hats for the maternity unity at Yeovil Hospital.  He continues to have an active role at St Peter’s Church.

Mr Ridler said: “It is a great honour and I would like to thank the support of my family, I couldn’t do it without them.”

His name will be added to the Mayor’s Award Roll of Honour which is on display at Yeovil Town Council’s offices in the town centre.

Mr Ridler had been unable to attend the annual town meeting of Yeovil Town Council back in May when the Mayor’s Award would normally be made each year.
