LEISURE: Zembard Singers are back for a second year

THE Chard-based Zembard Singers will start their second year later this month following the summer break and will look to hit the right note once again.

After a successful first year, the Zembard Singers reconvene on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, for the start of their second year.

The choir was founded by Trevor Lloyd Jones this time last year, after 40 or so keen singers decided to meet regularly, with the idea that singing for the fun of it was a brilliant idea.  Over the year, the choir has made two public appearances – singing at the Victorian evening in Ilminster, and in Over Stratton on the Open Gardens day.

Trevor Lloyd Jones, the conductor, has made clear the ethos of the choir is simply to have fun singing, to enjoy the physical pleasure of singing and revel in the amazing experience of creating harmony with other like-minded singers.

“Performance obligations can put pressure on some folk, and I wanted to avoid the ten rehearsals and concert routine,” he said.

“However, many in the choir have expressed a desire to share the work that they do, so watch this space!”

The group consists of some experienced singers and others who are complete beginners.  Whether you are a Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass or just not sure, everyone and anyone is welcome to come along and see if singing is for them.

The choir will meet at Holyrood Academy in Zembard Lane, Chard, on Wednesday evenings every week (excluding school holidays) from 7.30pm to 9.30pm – starting on September 14.

“It’s great that singing is alive and kicking in Chard and that there is such a strong appetite for more,” said Mr Lloyd Jones.
