LEISURE: Drummer Chris loses his beard and his hair – all in the name of charity!

A YEOVIL drummer has been left truly humbled following his fundraising event last night (Saturday, July 30, 2016) in which he had his beard shaved off in aid of charity.

Chris Holding, of Yeovil band GTwo, had his beard shaved off by Darren Hardy while he kept drumming during their rendition of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid.

And he was so pleased with the beard shave that they had to play Paranoid for a second time while – on the spur of the moment and the promise of more sponsorship – he had his head shaved as well.

All money raised will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and these funds were boosted further last night when Dave Allen raised another £200 when he had his head – and moustache – shaved off as well.

Chris, speaking on social media following the gig, said: “I will let you know what the total collected is as soon as we’ve had a count up. Suffice to say I am truly humbled by everyone’s generosity.

“The Motor Neurone Disease Association will be eternally grateful to people’s unparalleled generosity.”

Chris, speaking on social media following the gig, said: “I can’t believe the response I’ve had. It was great to see so many friends and family and I wasn’t expecting to lose my hair as well as the beard.

“The wonderful crowd at the Old Barn Club was amazing – so how could I not go the extra mile?

“I’m still buzzing from the atmosphere or is it Darren Hardy’s razor still resounding in my head.”

Chris had set himself a target of £500 and he was well on his way to achieving that on his online JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com.fundraising/chris-holding1 ahead of last night’s beard shave, but coupled with more money being collected last night and further donations – including £100 being presented to him by Old Barn Club chairman Shane Wood – it is likely that he has smashed through his goal.
