LEISURE: Two tickets available for day trip Basingstoke and Highclere Castle – August 9, 2016

YEOVIL-BASED South West Coaches has announced it has two seats available for its forthcoming trip to Highclere Castle in Hampshire.

The trip is being held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, and will give people the chance to tour this amazing property which has been the setting for numerous films and TV series including Downton Abbey.

The trip will stop off at Basingstoke initially at 11am for some leisure time, before moving on and getting to Highclere for 1.30pm.

Highclere is currently owned by George Herbert, the 8th Earl of Carnarvon, whose family has been in in residence since 1679.

Some of the things to see are The State Rooms, Upstairs Downstairs, the gardens and woodlands and the park and follies.

Take time to visit the Egyptian Exhibition which explains the history and displays the artefacts that the 5th Earl of Carnarvon obtained when he discovered the Tomb of the Egyptian Boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun in 1922 with his colleague Howard Carter.
