HOME FARM FEST 2016: Record-breaking total raised for School in a Bag charity

ORGANISERS of this month’s Home Farm Festival at Chilthorne Domer – in aid of the Piers Simon Appeal and its School in a Bag initiative – have announced the music fest raised a whopping £60,000.

A spokesman for the charity, speaking on social media, said: “What can we say except Thank You, Thank You and a million more Thank Yous.

“Without all the generosity of helpers, performers and people who come along to the festival, we wouldn’t be able to raise this amount for our small charity School in a Bag.

The School in a Bag project has come about from the Piers Simon Appeal which was formed soon after the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed including former Preston School and Yeovil College student Piers Simon. The SIAB initiative sees schoolbags filled with everyday education items such as pens, pencils and paper – plus eating utensils – and are sent out to poor and orphaned children around the globe.

Around 100 groups and singers performed over the weekend of June 10-12, 2016, in what was the charity’s 11th Home Farm Festival.

The £60,000 raised at this year's festival is by far the largest amount ever amassed and will effectively help support 4,000 children around the world with schoolbags.

The Yeovil Press would like to wish everyone at the Piers Simon Appeal and SIAB team a huge congratulations.
