YEOVIL NEWS: Town centre is open for business

BUSINESS leaders are working together with council chiefs in a bid to encourage more shoppers and visitors back to Yeovil town centre.

Highway improvements to two major roundabouts in the town have recently been completed which should – it is hoped – improve traffic flow.

But there are concerns that while the works were being carried out many people turned their back on Yeovil and ventured elsewhere to do their shopping.

Now South Somerset District Council is working closely with Yeovil Chamber of Commerce and other key people from the local business world to encourage more shoppers and visitors back to the town.

A press release sent out today (Monday, June 13, 2016) said that Yeovil is “buzzing with plenty of things to see, visit and do around the town centre.”YEOVIL NEWS: Town centre is open for business Photo 1

It added: “With hundreds of inexpensive car parking spaces in the easy to walk and compact Town Centre, it is now easier than ever to visit the impressive range of national and independent shops that Yeovil has to offer.

“Shoppers can choose from big names like H&M, M&S and Beales right through to specialist smaller retailers in areas like Princes Street. This makes Yeovil easy to get around and attractive to visitors to the town.

“The different range of market stalls on a Tuesday and Friday as well as the Vintage market on the first Saturday of every month and a weekly Street Food market every Saturday in the Quedam Centre, combine to make the town centre an even more vibrant place to visit.

“The wonderful award winning floral displays in and around the town centre will entice any flower-lover.  St John’s Churchyard is a popular spot where you can sit and enjoy the wonderful surroundings on a sunny day whilst enjoying a picnic.”

The council press release continued: “Yeovil boasts an award winning Green Flag Country Park located right beside the town centre where families can visit the wonderful wooded area of Ninesprings, the grasslands, rivers and lakes or visit the attractive café situated on the site.YEOVIL NEWS: Town centre is open for business Photo 2

“If you are feeling peckish or thirsty, there is an excellent range of coffee shops and restaurants. The Octagon Theatre has an impressive line-up this year and don’t forget the cinema complex at Yeo Leisure Park.”

The council’s Area South chairman, Cllr Peter Gubbins, said: “Yeovil really is open for business and the town welcomes people back to enjoy all it has to offer. We have a great range of shopping and leisure facilities to suit all tastes and all within a short walk.”
