HOME FARM FEST 2016: Festival is given a civic seal of approval

THE Mayor and Mayoress of Yeovil were able to give this year’s charity Home Farm Festival a civic seal of approval along with a little bit of oyez from the town crier.

Yeovil Mayor, Cllr Darren Shutler, and his wife Anna were among the festival-goers last night (Friday, June 10, 2016) for the opening of Home Farm Fest 11 which runs until Sunday (June 12, 2016).HOME FARM FEST 2016: Festival is given a civic seal of approval

They were joined by town crier Bruce Trigger who gave a couple of “cries” at two of the five stages at this year’s festival which is raising money for the Piers Simon Appeal and its School in a Bag initiative.

The crowds started to descend on Home Farm in Chilthorne Domer, near Yeovil, as soon as the gates opened at 4pm and come the start of the music at 7pm there were hundreds of festival-goers on the site.

There was a little bit of light rain during the evening, but nothing to stop the party from getting off to a brilliant start thanks to the musical likes of Twisted Vinyl, K’fuffle, Edge of Knowhere, Syndicate, Storm, Daniel Duke and Snakebyte – plus others!

But there was a lot more besides with fun for all the family.

The School in a Bag project has come about from the Piers Simon Appeal which was formed soon after the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed including former Yeovil College student Piers Simon. The SIAB initiative sees schoolbags filled with everyday education items such as pens, pencils and paper – plus eating utensils – and are sent out to poor and orphaned children around the globe.

The Mayor of Yeovil has chosen School in a Bag as one of his nominated charities for the year.

Tickets can still be bought at the gate. Ticket prices are as follows: Saturday All Day – Adult £25; Child (6-17) £12.50; Infants (5 and under) Free. Sunday – Adult £20; Child (6-17) £10; Infants (5 and under) Free.
