SOMERSET NEWS: Woman airlifted to hospital after getting trapped under lorry

AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance this afternoon (Thursday, June 9, 2016) after getting trapped under a lorry in Frome.

Firefighters from Frome, along with colleagues from Warminster and Trowbridge in neighbouring Wiltshire, were mobilised at just after 2.30pm to the incident at Wessex Fields in Marston Road outside the Halfords store.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We confirmed that whilst the elderly female was under the lorry with facial injuries she was not physically trapped.

“We set to work stabilising the vehicle and administering first aid. After liaising with doctors from the air ambulance, we got the female casualty onto a stretcher before she was air lifted to hospital.”

Firefighters made the lorry and scene safe before leaving duty of care with the police.

Wessex Fields has remained blocked since the incident happened.
