YEOVIL NEWS: Outgoing Mayor gives a wonderful parting gift to Hospital Charity

THE outgoing Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Mike Lock, has presented a cheque for £31,000 to the Yeovil Hospital Charity.

The money will be split between the Macmillan Cancer Unit and the Yeovil Heatbeat group which are both based at Yeovil District Hospital.

“It’s been a wonderful year,” said Cllr Lock who later passed on the Mayoral chain of office to Cllr Darren Shutler during tonight’s(Tuesday, May 3, 2016) annual town meeting of Yeovil Town Council.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported the fundraising events which have a raised a fantastic total of £31,000.”

Sarah Cherry, of Yeovil Hospital, said that Cllr Lock and his wife Pauline had been brilliant supporters of the charity.

Ashley Davidson, of Yeovil Heartbeat, said that the money would go towards buying new gym equipment.

Yeovil Heartbeat provides support and rehabilitation services for people who have suffered a cardiac arrest, but others including stroke patients and cancer survivors.

Cllr Lock’s fundraising over two years as Mayor of Yeovil coined in a total of £57,171.53 for his dedicated charities. The 2015-15 amount came to £26,171.07 in aid of Yeovil Hospital’s Flying Colours Appeal.

Cllr David Recardo has become the new Deputy Mayor of Yeovil.
