YEOVIL NEWS: New exit planned for motorists onto Clarence Street from Tesco store

PLANS are being drawn up to introduce a second exit from the main Tesco store in the centre of Yeovil.

At present shoppers can only drive in and out of the store in Queensway Place via the Queensway dual-carriageway.

But Somerset County Council has now unveiled plans to introduce a second exit onto Clarence Street which would take drivers to the Hospital Roundabout.

The objectives of the second Tesco exit – as part of the Yeovil Eastern Corridor and Yeovil Hospital Roundabout project – are specifically to reduce congestion at the Police Station Roundabout and to make it more convenient for shoppers living to the north of the store.

At present shoppers who live north of the store when leaving Tesco have to drive down to the Police Station Roundabout and go all the way round and back up Queensway to get home.

The idea of installing an exit onto Clarence Street has often been suggested for many years by shoppers who use Tesco – but has failed to materialise.

But perhaps – with this planning application – it might now actually happen.

The proposals have been submitted to South Somerset District Council for discussion.
