YEOVIL NEWS: Eight arrests over suspected drug offences

POLICE arrested eight people - two women and six men - on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs at the weekend in Yeovil.

A police officer from the Yeovil Beat Team responded to a call from a member of the public, who had witnessed what he suspected to be a drug deal taking place on the Wyndham Estate on Saturday (April 23, 2016) morning.

The officer immediately attended, located and identified a suspect matching the description from the member of the public. He detained him for a search and found £1,500 of cash and other items that lead him to believe he was involved in drug dealing. Officers were then able to carry out a search warrant at the man’s address. They arrested a further seven people on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

During the search they found weapons, further cash, drug dealing paraphernalia and other medication, which is illegal possess without a prescription. A stolen car was also found.

TC/Insp Tim Coombe said: “These have been a significant series of events and some very positive results for us. It will have severely hampered and disrupted drug dealing in this area.

“The Beat Team, supported by force resources including our Catch and Disrupt Teams, and the Mounted and Dog Units, are working hard with our partners and the local community to deal with these issues and the associated anti-social behaviour.YEOVIL NEWS: Eight arrests over suspected drug offences

“I want to thank members of the public who are calling us with information. On this occasion, someone called us really quickly whilst a crime was potentially occurring. My officer was able to get there fast and arrest someone promptly. This makes all the difference to us in the actions and activities that we are able to carry out immediately after.

“I want to reiterate some of the things that I have said in the past about drug dealing, as I cannot emphasise enough our commitment to dealing with this issue, our understanding of the impact on the local community and the need for the public to work with us.
