YEOVIL NEWS: Woman suffers smoke inhalation in flat fire

THE occupant of a flat in Yeovil needed medical assistance after suffering from smoke inhalation due to a fire in the kitchen.

The alarm was raised yesterday (Friday, February 26, 2016) at just after 1.30am to the problem at a property in Lyde Road where the occupant had phoned for the emergency services.

Two fire engines from Yeovil were mobilised and on arrival the firefighters requested the support of ambulance paramedics.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “While we waited for the arrival of the ambulance we administered oxygen therapy to the female occupant because she was suffering from smoke inhalation.”

Firefighters discovered that the fire in the first-floor flat was in the cooker and it had been caused accidentally by food which had been left unattended inside.

“There was no damage to the property, bother than to the food stuffs, but the female occupant was taken to hospital as a precaution,” added the Fire Service spokesman.
