SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Sheep killed at Ham Hill Country Park

DOG owners are again being urged to keep their animals on a lead while walking through some areas of the Ham Hill Country Park – following the deaths of two sheep at the weekend.

Country park wardens have said that three sheep were mauled by dogs last weekend (February 20-21, 2016) with two of them being killed.

“This has happened despite the warning signs on the all the gates asking dog owners to keep their animals on a lead,” said a spokesman. “We repeat – please keep all dogs on a lead in areas where there are sheep at all times. No exceptions.

“We try very hard to keep the sheep safe and well and it is distressing when they get attacked.”

There have been numerous occasions down the years where sheep have been killed by dogs on Ham Hill.

It should be noted that the majority of dog owners do abide by the request to keep their animals under control when in fields occupied by sheep, but sadly some do not.
