CHARITY NEWS: Support St Margaret’s Hospice with the Great Somerset Colour Run

THE Great Somerset Colour Run – in aid of St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice – will be back for another year in May and organisers want YOUR support.

It will be back bigger and better and HazelgroveSchool’s normally sedate grounds in Sparkford, near Yeovil, will receive a vibrant wake-up call with the Colour Run on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

While hundreds of people will run, walk, skip or hop the 5k route – an army of volunteers will be taking aim and throwing brightly coloured powder paint to help the kilometres race by.

Last year’s event raised a massive £70,000 with over 1,600 people taking part. The money raised last year is the equivalent of 700 home visits from a specialist nurse assisting with pain control.CHARITY NEWS: Support St Margaret’s Hospice with the Great Somerset Colour Run

This year St Margaret’s hopes to raise even more and is asking the Somerset community get involved.

The hospice’s head of fundraising Julia Poulton said: “Last year’s event was truly amazing – there was such a vibrant atmosphere, but also the opportunity for reflection and at times it was really quite emotional.

“When the paint went up at the party finish, it really did give you goose bumps. It’s a great way to remember a loved one – while supporting the hospice and ensuring we’re here to help others in the future.

“We can’t wait to do it again in May.”

Registration is online at http://www.somerset-hospice.org.uk/events/VIEW/76 with tickets going on sale tomorrow (Thursday, January 21, 2016).

Tickets start from £10 for children and £15 for adults. T-shirts are available at £5 plus £2.50 postage.

St Margaret’s asks participants to raise as much sponsorship as possible with this money going directly to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness across Somerset.

St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients and their families in the county at its two inpatient units at Taunton and Yeovil.

It costs £10million to deliver these services and without the support of the local community it would be unable to offer support to over 3,200 people in Somerset living with a life-limiting illness each year.
