SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Ilminster thanks firefighter Neil

A CEREMONIAL axe has been presented to Neil Edwards who has left the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service following 26 years of firefighting service to Ilminster and the surrounding area.

Members of Ilminster Fire Station and their families came together for a leaving party for Neil, better known to most as Teddy, at the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster.

Andy Miller, of Ilminster Fire Station, paid tribute to Neil’s “dedication and service” and also thanked the families of all the firefighters’ present and their employers for allowing and supporting them to carry out their vital duties.

“Good luck to Neil for the future and we’ll all miss him at Ilminster Fire Station,” he added.

Neil was presented with the traditional ceremonial axe and certificate with plaque to mark his career with initially the Somerset Fire Brigade and more recently the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
