YEOVIL NEWS: Three men arrested after police net big drugs haul in town centre

THREE men from London have been arrested in Yeovil after 1,000 wraps of heroin were discovered at a property in the centre of town.

Officers attended the address on Thursday (November 26, 2015) following information from a member of the public regarding the welfare of a tenant. When police arrived at the address they found three men, aged 16, 22 and 23, at the property and 1,000 wraps of heroin were found during a subsequent search.

The men were arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply class A drugs.

PC George Pettingell, from the Somerset Investigations Unit, said: “A member of the public contacted us yesterday afternoon as they were concerned about the tenant of a property in the centre of town. When we arrived at the address, we found three men from London and a large quantity of what we believe to be heroin.

“We want to thank the public for the information they supplied and encourage people to come forward if they have any concerns about suspected drug dealing activities in their community.

“I would similarly encourage people to get in touch if they have any concerns about friends or neighbours who they believe might be vulnerable due to drug dependency. We can work with our partners to help and support them, with the aim of preventing further offences, to minimise any risk to them as a result of drug debt for example and prevent any impact on their local community.”YEOVIL NEWS: Three men arrested after police net big drugs haul in town centre

This latest action is the latest in a series of activities over the last month in which Yeovil police have been tackling drug crime.

A 19 year-old man from London was sentenced to four years in prison last week after he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin in Yeovil.

A 29 year-old man from Yeovil was also charged on November 13, 2015, for being concerned in supply of drugs after £10,000 worth of cocaine was found in his address and several thousand pounds in cash.

T/Chief Inspector Tim Coombe said: “The message from us is clear, we will not tolerate drug dealing in Yeovil.

“It can be really unpleasant to live near a property that is involved in drug dealing activity. It can have a real impact on the immediate community as a result of some of the related anti-social behaviour - such as visitors at all hours of the day and night, and it can be intimidating.

“We can work with our partners, including housing providers, to deal with suspected drug dealing and anti-social behaviour so please get in touch with us and don’t suffer in silence. We can do something about it and we take any information provided seriously.”
