YEOVIL NEWS: Yarn bombing for Christmas in town centre

STREET furniture and trees in St John's Churchyard in the centre of Yeovil will be given a Christmas touch by volunteers and staff from South Somerset District Council.

A form of street art called yarn bombing will take place in the churchyard – commonly known as the Beach - on Monday, December 14, 2015.YEOVIL NEWS: Yarn bombing for Christmas in town centre

Yarn bombing employs displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk, which can be easily removed at the end of the display with no damage. The display is part of the Yeovil in Bloom initiative for 2015-16.

People are also encouraged to join in the fun by making white or silver pom-poms in advance of the event and take them to Yeovil Town House ready for the big day. So far 300 pom-poms have been made for the event.

Cllr David Recardo, chairman of Yeovil in Bloom, said: “We’ve held some great yarn bombing events this year at St John’s Churchyard and we are sure this Christmas event will be no different. Using environmentally friendly pom-poms is a great way to help decorate the town for Christmas.”

You can also join in the yarn bombing event on December 14 from 10am and help to decorate the town.

Yeovil won Gold in this year’s South West in Bloom competition, the seventh time in its history.

The Yeovil in Bloom initiative is managed and funded by Yeovil Town Council, and delivered with the support of South Somerset District Council.
