SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Hallowe’en fun in town centre streets

THE streets of Chard town centre have again been transformed into a Hallowe’en haven of witches, ghouls, monsters and ghosts.

Hundreds of children converged on the town this evening (Saturday, October 31, 2015) for the annual festivities of visiting a range of participating traders and doing some trick or treat Hallowe’en fun.

Nearly 40 town centre traders in Fore Street, Holyrood Street, High Street and Boden Street took part ranging from clothes shops, hairdressing salons, charity shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, a bank, a dental surgery, pubs, florists, and even a funeral director’s.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Hallowe’en fun in town centre streets

It is the fourth time the Hallowe’en fun has taken place in the town centre and it has got bigger and better each time with more and more young people and their families getting involved.

The event is co-ordinated by the Chard Town Team – although it has spiralled in size and popularity since Michelle Young, of Razooks hair salon, organised the initial event in 2012 to celebrate the first birthday of her business.

Trick or treaters were able to go along to the Guildhall this evening and pay a £1 for list of all the participating outlets dotted around the town.

Proceeds from the event – which will be match-funded by Barclays Bank – will be donated to the Hope for Tomorrow cancer charity.

There was a performance from members of the Kelly Leigh School of Dance outside the Guildhall with some great spooky dancing.
