SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Chard roadworks - disruption on the way

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect disruption in Chard town centre next week while drainage works are carried out on a number of roads.

Somerset Highways have announced that as from Monday (September 7, 2015) sections of Tatworth Road, Church Street and Old Town will be closed off because of the works.

A Somerset County Council spokesman said: “The works are expected to last for 40 days and while the closure is in operation an alternative route will be sign-posted.”

Drivers will not be able to drive along the A358 Old Town from the junction with Mill Lane southwards for 208 metres; Church Street from the junction with Holyrood Street southwards for 93 metres; and Tatworth Road from the junction with the B3162 Forton Road southwards for 125 metres.

The official diversion route will take motorists on a long detour around the roadworks via the A30 and the B3167 turn-off at Cricket St Thomas which heads towards Tatworth and Forton.

Access to Forton   Road will also be via the B3167, while motorists wanting to get to the Crowshute Link will have to do so via the A30.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Chard roadworks - disruption on the way

Motorists in Chard have already their fair share of traffic disruption this year in the town centre when large sections of the A30 were dug up by Western Power Distribution contractors to lay cables for a new solar farm on Snowdon Hill.

People will also be able to have their say on Monday (September 7) about plans being put forward by Somerset County Council to resurface Chard’s High Street and Fore   Street in 2016.

Cllrs Amanda Broom and Jason Baker, who both serve on Chard Town Council and South Somerset District Council, will be at the town hall in the Guildhall from 4.30pm to 6.30pm to discuss the possible impact the works could have for traders and shoppers.
