LEISURE: Party on the Park for Ilminster

SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Party on the Park for Ilminster

FINAL preparations are being made for the annual Party on the Park on Sunday (August 30, 2015) at the Ilminster Recreation Ground.

The event is free to all stallholders and visitors with the aim of providing “fun” activities for all of the community to enjoy and to allow local groups to raise money.

Activities include tug of war competitions for adults and children, a puppet show, art play, fizz pop science, tea tents, barbecue and other refreshments.

There will also be live music throughout the day with The Elvis Experience at 12.45pm; Four Thousand Dollar Ham Napkin at 1.45pm; The IOUs at 3pm; A Night With Lions at 4.30pm; Edge of Knowhere at 5.45pm; and Wise Intentions at 7pm.

Emma Jane Taylor, of the Party on the Park organising committee, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local businesses who have sponsored the event.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Party on the Park for Ilminster

“Without such sponsorship the event would not be possible - businesses such as C&D SW Ltd, Gary Lawrence, Mitchams Accountants and Dot-The-Eye Ltd.

“Special thanks must go to C&D SW Ltd who, at very short notice, has agreed to provide us with a trailer on which the bands will be performing.”

Bonnings Transport, who has supported the event since it began, has been unable to support this year’s event due to circumstances beyond their control.

Emma Jane added: “If you are an Ilminster community group and you want a stall it’s not too late to book your pitch. Contact us by emailing ilminsterpop@gmail.com.”

Party on the Park was established in 2013 following calls from Ilminster people to have an event similar to the one that was organised to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee the previous year.

Organisers are now keeping their fingers-crossed for good weather on Sunday for the Party on the Park which is scheduled to run from midday to sunset.
