NOW that summer is finally here the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil is gearing up for its spectacular new Summer School Projects.

The theatre and musical projects are aimed at young people who love drama, singing and dancing and they run from Monday (August 3) through to Friday, August 21.THEATRE WORKSHOPS: Summer school projects on stage

The projects begin with The Octagon Theatre Showstoppers from August 3-7 led by professional project leaders Sarah Langley, Lizzie Frances, Jessica Oldfield and Tom Turner who will be working with children aged from seven to 13 to create ‘Annie - The First Night Farce’.

Project leader, Sarah Langley has been dancing for over ten years and has both performed and choreographed at The Octagon.

“I cannot wait to teach your children and lead them to a show-stopping performance at the end of the week,” she said.

A Summer School Project led by the Yeovil-based Castaway Theatre Group from August 10-14 has already reached capacity with children set to put on ‘Matilda the Musical in 20 Minutes.’

The final Summer School Project is The Octagon Theatre Company’s ‘Follies, Folklore & Fantasy’ which runs from August 17-21.

This project will be led by Sue Huggins, director of the Octagon Theatre Company, who said: "This will be the third Summer School I have delivered at the Octagon and I am super excited to be creating drama with this year’s participants."THEATRE WORKSHOPS: Summer school projects on stage

All of the projects run from 10am to 4pm daily and are priced £125 per participant. The project with the Castaways is already full.

An Octagon spokesman said: “Summer Schools at the Octagon are a fantastic way to get young people engaging with their imagination and creativity in a fun, supportive environment over the summer. They are also a great place for children to make lifelong friends.”
