SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Serious road crash between motorbike and car

A SOUTH Somerset motorcyclist was taken to Yeovil District Hospital yesterday (Thursday, July 30, 2015) following a serious road crash between Shaftesbury and Sherborne.

Police investigating are now appealing for witnesses to come forward who saw the incident which happened at about 6.20pm on the A30 Shaftesbury Road when a silver Ford Focus and a blue Honda motorbike were involved in a collision.

Both vehicles were heading west from Shaftesbury when they collided near Henstridge.

A police spokesman said the rider of the motorcycle, a 53-year-old man from Wincanton, sustained serious injuries from the incident and was taken to Yeovil Hospital.

The pillion passenger of the motorcycle, a woman from Wincanton, suffered potentially life threatening injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.”SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Serious road crash between motorbike and car

The driver, a 34-year-old man from Evesham in Worcestershire, and two passengers of the Ford Focus were uninjured.

Officers from Dorset Police and Avon and Somerset Police attended the scene along with the ambulance services.

Road closures were put in place at the Henstridge Cross Road and Lower Marsh while the collision investigation team examined the area.

Police Inspector Colin Bell, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “We are making enquiries to determine exactly what happened in this serious collision.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw the manner of driving of either vehicle immediately before the incident to contact Dorset Police on 101.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience during the road closures.”
