SOMERSET NEWS: UPDATE - Work ongoing at landfill site blaze
WORK is still ongoing at the Dimmer landfill site in Castle Cary following the outbreak of a fire yesterday (Saturday, June 27, 2015) afternoon.
More relief crews are attending the incident at Dimmer Lane this afternoon (Sunday, June 28, 2015) to continue work in preventing the fire spreading to other areas of the site.
The alarm was raised at just before 4pm yesterday to the problem and firefighters from Castle Cary, Frome and Yeovil were mobilised where they found about ten metres of the main tip face well alight at the site in Dimmer Lane.
Extra support was called for from Wincanton and Shepton Mallet, and then later Somerton and Wellington.

By 6pm there were a total of 11 fire engines at the site with further crews called in from Ilminster, Gillingham, Street and Yeovil.
Around 90 minutes later at 7.45pm and the Fire Service reported that crews were making “steady progress” and liaising with site officials.
Firefighters have been at the site throughout the night and today ensuring that the fire does not spread.
Latest news from the Fire Service said that relief crews were due to arrive at the site at 2pm today (Sunday, June 28, 2015).
