One of 12 regions, Yeovil falls within the South West region and last year scooped the top regional award.

That success in October encouraged the committee to submit a nomination to the National Conference for one of CSSC’s most prestigious awards – the Russell Scott Trophy.

Yeovil has won this trophy twice before in 1990 and 1996. Representatives from the Yeovil attended the National Conference in Birmingham on June 15-16, 2015, already knowing they had been shortlisted as finalists in the top three out of 90 nationwide.

There was then joy when it was announced that Yeovil had won the award for a third time.

Branch committee chairman Audrey Haskell said: “It is the third time that Yeovil has won this award.

“The only other areas to win it three times since records began in 1977 are Merseyside and Plymouth – two much larger area associations than Yeovil who only has 300 members.”CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Yeovil wins top award for third time

Audrey added: “Congratulations Yeovil Area CSSC – you are not only the best in the west, but have proved your worth at national level too.”

Celebrations took place at their normal monthly meeting earlier this week at the Quicksilver Mail in Yeovil on Tuesday (June 23, 2015).

The committee meets there on the third Tuesday of the month and all members are welcome.

CSSC is a not-for-profit organisation aimed at public sector workers and their family and friends via linked memberships.

It positively promotes health and well-being in the workplace and their everyday lives.

Audrey added: "The aim is to help members to have fun, get active, try out new hobbies or activities and experience the great diversity of the organisation."

The CSSC across the UK organises hundreds of events, activities and special offers and discounts for its membership every year.
