YEOVIL NEWS: Council wants urgent meeting with Westland leisure owners

YEOVIL Town Council wants to hold urgent talks with the owners of the Westland leisure complex to discuss its planned closure.

AgustaWestland announced last week that the long-established leisure facilities in Yeovil – managed by Sodexo - would be closing at the end of September this year due to financial reasons.

Cllr Tony Lock proposed at last night’s annual meeting of Yeovil Town Council that the closure and loss of leisure facilities would have detrimental “implications” for the area.YEOVIL NEWS: Council wants urgent meeting with Westland leisure owners

“We need an urgent meeting with the owners to discuss the implications of the planned closure,” he said. “The closure is going to effect many organisations and individuals.

“We have to pursue all avenues available to us and get the ball rolling.”

Although no discussion took place among councillors, Cllr Lock said it was important for the council to “start the ball rolling.”

He proposed a motion that “this council resolves to arrange an urgent meeting with the owners of the Westland leisure complex to discuss the implications for the town of the recently announced planned closure of the complex.”

The motion was seconded by Cllr David Recardo.

The council will discuss the Westland issue again at its next meeting on Tuesday (May 26, 2015).
