PEDAL FROM PARIS 2015: Emotional homecoming for the cyclists

THE Pedal from Paris charity cycling team returned home to Yeovil Town FC yesterday (Sunday, May 3, 2015) and received a fantastic welcome from family, friends and supporters.

A total of 103 cyclists arrived at Huish Park at around 2pm having spent four days cycling the 241 miles (368km) from Yeovil’s twin French town of Herblay just outside of Paris.

A large crowd of well-wishers had assembled to cheer them in and tears were shed from some of the cyclists as the emotion of the homecoming caught up with them.

The cyclists are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust, Cyclists Fighting Cancer and Cystic Fibrosis.

Their return came during a family fun day at the club which involved a series of football matches, live music and a beer and cider festival.

The highlight of the football action was a game between a Tom White XI and a Terry Cotton XI which featured a number of former Glovers’ players including Adrian Foster, Tony Pounder, Paul Thorpe, Dave Piper, Ben Smith and Steve Thompson.

Funds for the three chosen charities were boosted following the match when an auction was held with Terry Cotton as auctioneer.

Organisers would like to congratulate all the cyclists and thank everyone who has sponsored them and supported them.

It is hoped that they will be able to announce this coming weekend a final total on how much has been raised.
