SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Thatched roof fires in row of cottages

FIREFIGHTERS from across the county have this afternoon (Friday, May 1, 2015) been dealing with thatched roof fires involving a row of cottages.

The alarm was raised at just before 1.30pm to Primrose Hill in Charlton Mackrell and fire engines from Somerton, Yeovil, Street, Castle Cary, Glastonbury and Wincanton were mobilised, along with an incident command unit from Wiveliscombe and an aerial ladder platform from Taunton.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews were mobilised to a row of thatched cottages, two of which were involved in fire.”

They discovered the thatch to be well alight and requested additional support with a further four fire engines from Sherborne, Bridgwater, Gillingham and Martock.

More details to follow.
