SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Thatch roof fire near Chard

FIREFIGHTERS from across the area have tonight (Monday, March 30, 2015) been fighting a thatch roof fire at a property near Chard.

Eight fire engines from Chard, Ilminster, Crewkerne, Axminster, Honiton and Taunton were sent out just after 7.15pm when the alarm was raised of a fire at the small hamlet of Cuttiford’s Door.

Various specialist vehicles were also mobilised including a water carrier and aerial ladder platform from Yeovil.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “On arrival the crews confirmed that the roof of the property was well alight and had got to work.

“A structural engineer was requested to attend the incident as there were concerns over the safety of the chimney.”
